Brief History of APSS APSS was first proposed in 1999 during the Japan-Korea Industrial Safety Research Conference in Gyeongju, Korea. Then, the 1st Asia Pacific Symposium on Safety was held in 2001 in Kyoto. Over the years, it has become a major biannual international event focused on improving industrial safety and preventing disasters across the Asia-Pacific region and the globe: (1) Kyoto, Japan in 2001; (2) Taipei, China in 2003; (3) China in 2005; (4) Seoul, Korea in 2007; (5) Osaka, Japan in 2009; (6) Jeju, Korea in 2011; (7) Singapore in 2013; (8) Kitakyushu, Japan in 2017; (9) Dalian, China in 2019; (10) Bangkok, Thailand in 2023; (11) Jeju, Korea in 2025; and (12) Hong Kong, China in 2027. For bidding APSS 2029, please contact the International Program Committee (IPC) via apss.hk@polyu.edu.hk. We meet at a time of fast changes - with new science, new technology, rising climate change, and growing global uncertainty. These changes mean we must think about safety in a bigger way. We must move beyond technical rules and create a comprehensive system that integrates technology, society, the environment, and policy. |
